About us:

Street (UK) is a non profit organisation specialising in the provision of a range of high quality, retail financial services for those excluded from access to mainstream credit and banking services.

The organisation was launched in September 2000, its parent company, Street (UK) Foundation is a registered charity.

 

 

Operations are supported by charitable and governmental donations, while its loan book is funded by loans from commercial banks and community bonds. 

Mission

Street (UK)'s mission is to provide Britain's population of financial excluded individuals and the communities in which they live and work, with a range of high quality, specialised financial services.  We wish to do this on a on a sustainable basis. 

Organisation and Governance

Street UK Foundation is a company limited by guarantee and charity. The Foundation has two wholly owned subsidiaries, Street UK Limited (the operating company for loans) and Street UK Equipment Leasing Limited (the operating company for Leases). These two companies deliver the objects of the charity. The three companies share a board of directors/trustees.

Track Record

Street UK was launched in September 2000 and made its first loan in April 2001. To date Street UK has lent over £2 million to individuals borrowing an average of £600 each. Incorporated into its lending activity, Street UK has also provided budgeting and debt advice and ongoing support to its clients.

In addition to this lending activity, and in pursuit of sustainability, Street UK has developed its own loan administration software and provides 'back office services' for 20+ other similar community development financial institutions (CDFIs) across the country.

Current and Future Developments

Street (UK)'s current and future development strategy includes:

•  expanding its operations in the West Midlands region. Street UK is seeking opportunities to develop its network of outlets across the West Midlands region and is currently negotiating with a number of potential funders to secure the resources needed to achieve this.

•  increasing its range of products and services. Drawing on the lessons learned over the last six years years Street UK is increasing the range of products and services on offer. We will shortly be launching a new product - a bill payments service. In the longer term Street UK plans further expand its product range to provide a one stop financial shop for everything from a consumer loan to insurance or a pension.

•  growing its client portfolio and organisational capacity. Street UK's business model is dependant on serving as many clients as possible in order to achieve the economies of scale needed to operate on a sustainable basis.
